Quality Assurance Engineer II

SUMMARY:      

In a custom equipment engineering and fabrication business, the QAE II insures that equipment built meets project specific and NQA-1 Quality Program requirements. This role reviews and interprets engineering drawings, customer specific technical and quality requirements, then plans, coordinates, and performs quality engineering activities in support of the production process and QA administrative functions. Drives continuous improvement of processes and procedures in an effort to increase velocity of work through the organization.   Evaluates fabrication and inspection documents and test results to verify conformance with client and procedural requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and documents Project Quality Matrix to distill drawings, fabrication and quality specifications, to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Develops and documents project specific procurement flow downs.
  • Creates and reviews Inspection Test Plans for projects. Coordinates with project engineers as needed for technical support.
  • Reviews and evaluates inspections, test results, and Travelers for conformance to Quality Program and project requirements prior to customer submittal.
  • Coordinates with company CWI to ensure welding program is maintained and welder continuity records are on file.
  • Recommends and implements modifications to existing procedures, processes, and fabrication techniques to improve workflow and improve quality of the product.
  • Insures timely planning and execution of destructive and nondestructive testing on materials, parts, and products to measure material characteristics.
  • Supports resolution and disposition of non-conforming materials.
  • Assists with maintenance of qualifications and certifications for inspection and test employees. Identifies and communicates training deficiencies.
  • Performs audits of supplier quality and performance.
  • Insures implementation and maintenance of the calibration program.
  • Assists in supporting audits from customer and outside certification entities.
  • Develops and presents training needed to support implementation of the Quality System.
  • Performs administrative and other duties as directed by the QA Manager.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to assist in mentorship of other quality personnel. This role must coordinate with Document Control, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and QC Inspectors to ensure execution of work is in compliance with ATG quality standards and project specific requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • 4+ years of quality engineering, preferably in a metal fabrication environment (forming, welding, machining, etc)
  • 2+ years of experience in quality assurance related activities including document management/control, mechanical or weld inspection, NDT, and auditing.
  • Associates or Bachelor of Science Degree in Science or Engineering desired.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to use basic scheduling tools to plan inspections and tests; skilled with handheld measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, steel rules, and tape measures.
  • Must be proficient in fabrication/construction specification and blueprint reading: fabrication, welding, machining, sheet metal, and pipe.
  • Must be familiar with quality documentation, AWS, and ASME standards.
  • Must be familiar with process improvement/continuous improvement tools and techniques.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence and represent ATG in a professional manner.
  • The incumbent must be competent in geometric tolerances and dimensions.
  • Ability to identify and correct discrepancies in quality assurance documents.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OTHER:

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.
  • Lead Auditor Certification preferred.

PAY RANGE:

$75,000 to $100,000
